Promoting Sri Lanka as a key Tourist Destination among Koreans

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Seoul in association with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau initiated a number of activities in the hope of promoting Sri Lanka as a key tourist destination among Koreans.
Very recently, the Ambassador, accompanied by  Counsellor (Commercial) of the Mission met with  members of the Travel and Tourism Club (TNT Club), one of the prominent tourism clubs in Korea at the President Hotel in Seoul to discuss prospects of attracting  Korean tourists to Sri Lanka.  TNT Club comprises of leading Korean Travel companies such as Hana, Mode etc. and travel media representatives along with other tourism related associations. The Embassy officials  made a  detailed presentation with attractive visuals and information covering major tourist attractions in Sri Lanka along with other tourism-related details during the discussion. An interactive session followed  the discussion, which provided the members an opportunity to raise questions on Sri Lanka tourism which were subsequently answered by the Ambassador.

NKAR Joins SLAPCEO (Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference and Exhibition organizers)

The Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference and Exhibition organizers (SLAPCEO) was established in 2002 with a view of developing the MICE industry in Sri Lanka, SLAPCEO is the only association in Sri Lanka that represents the Mice industry and the only recognized body by the Conventions bureau of Sri Lanka. SLAPCEO follows a stringent process in selecting its membership to ensure a high degree of professionalism is maintained within the society and same is passed on to the betterment of the industry.

Some of the Key Objectives and services of SLAPCEO are as follows

  • To foster the development of professional meetings, conventions, seminars and exhibitions and events of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry in Sri Lanka.
  • To work in close liaison with all Government Ministries, Authorities and Departments and particularly with Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, as well as Sri Lankan Airlines Limited and all other Airlines, Hoteliers, Convention organizers, Event Organizers, Equipment providers, Venue providers, Service providers, Members of the Travel and Tourism Industry of Sri Lanka and allied organizations, as well as stakeholders of the MICE industry for the achievement of the objects referred to above
  • To take such steps as are deemed necessary to promote and protect the interests of its varied types of members, non-members and stakeholders associated with the MICE industry
  • To liaise with local and international bodies for MICE Tourism
  • To encourage MICE tourist traffic between Sri Lanka and other countries and vice versa
  • Organize and hold meetings, incentive travel, conferences, congresses, conventions, lectures, seminars, exhibitions, events, workshops and forums for any purpose and of all types of descriptions
  • Provide advisory services on all matters relating to writing, editing, publishing and printing of marketing material in any form
  • To affiliate with any institutions local and foreign, with similar aims and objectives
  • To sponsor scholarship, studentship and fellowship programs on its own or In collaboration with other local and/or foreign institutions or truism
  •  To develop, offer and conduct professional and other training courses and sessions for its members, non-members and stakeholders
  • To involve in any capacity in infrastructure development for the furtherance of the MICE industry

ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2012

The ICC World Twenty20 or ICC World T20 also referred to as the T20 World Cup is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket. The event is organized by the sport's governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament consists of 12 teams & the encounter will kick off on 18th September at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium, Hambantota, Sri Lanka. 12 teams will play each other & final encounter will be held on 7th October 2012 in Colombo followed by series of extravagant events.

Sri Lanka Festival in Tokyo on 8th and 9th of September 2012

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo, Japan announced that the Ninth Sri Lanka Festival will be held on 8th and 9th of September, 2012 in Tokyo under the theme "Miracle Island: Sri Lanka - Wonder of Asia".

Sri Lanka this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka will host the high profile Sri Lanka Festival. The primary objectives of the Sri Lanka Festival are to promote and project Sri Lanka, in all culture, trade, commercial, and particularly, in tourism aspects, and to enhance and augment the image of the country, among others, the Embassy said in an announcement.
